A Good Cry

I was very sad when I arrived at the studio this morning, and I just couldn’t shake it. I knew I needed to release the energy but I didn’t want to put that sadness into  my existing work.  So I decided to grab the palette knife and let it out on a new painting.

My initial goal was simply to get the pain out of my body. About half way through the painting I became conscious of my surroundings and of whether or not the colors were playing well with each other. And during the last five minutes, I made a couple of compositional adjustments. For the most part this was about release.

Sometimes I just need a good cry.

A good cry is good for the soul and what a beautiful way to let it all out. I should try this method myself. I love the explosion of colours Shannon – hope you’re feeling better now.

  2. Yep looks like you released, yellow emotional, light blue strip, need to voice it. Hope you feel better.

You let it go with lots of happy color I see! Orange and yellow did the trick.

    Shannon,
I love this painting. The colors are so vibrant. I once did a face of anger to get some emotions out and then wanted to burn it but everyone loved it. You never know how ALL you different emotions can speak to people in paintings. My thought is that there are no bad emotions. It is just what you choose to do with them! Love it!

You might have had an emotional offset – but looks like you know how to harness it. Beautiful!
