#SongGame: Fork In The Road

posted in: Music | 4

The prompt for this week’s #SongGame was “Someplace Beyond”.

(If you are new here, the only way to stay in the SongGame is to write a song a week, using their prompt.)

Sometimes the song works out, other times, not so much.

No matter, each song is a success in that it keeps me writing.

This week, I wasn’t excited about the prompt,

so it was a really good challenge for me.

First I wrote a sappy piece, then I wrote a sullen piece and I scrapped both of them.

Then I heard a Yogi Berra quote and was inspired  to do another song around “Yogisms”.

I finally got it recorded and then realized I used the term, “Somewhere Beyond” instead of “Someplace”.

What I’ve posted here is the “Somewhere” version….

Forks

This is a raw version but it has potential… have a listen :O)

Fork In The Road

I was scratching my head and pacing

Round a pile of well-worn maps

Wrinkling my nose and wondering

If I was on the right track

Yogi snapped it’s like dejavu all over again

Take the fork in the road and plow right through

You’ve tried left and right now you need new shoes

Straight ahead lies the truth

Take the fork in the road it was meant for you

I was still biting my lip and staring

Not sure how much time elapsed

Leaning in close and hoping

For another chance at bat

Yogi snapped it ain’t over no one’s singing fat

Take the fork in the road and plow right through

You’ve tried left and right now you need new shoes

Straight ahead lies the truth

Take the fork in the road it was meant for you

Somewhere beyond doubt’s shadow

Dreams bloom inside the truth

90% is half mental

The path you seek is you

Take the fork in the road and plow right through

You’ve tried left and right now you need new shoes

Straight ahead lies the truth

Take the fork in the road it was meant for you

Take the fork in the road it was meant for you
