You Are More Beautiful Than You Think

The power of social media is amazing!  Today I received a Twitter tweet from @2fastvette.  It was tagged with the word #beautiful and contained a link.

At first, I was not sure if I’d open it as I was running late. But @2fastvette sends out a lot of inspiring links  to everyone, and  something told me to click NOW.

And I so I did.

This beautiful Dove video deals with difference between how we see ourselves and how we are perceived by others.

The Dove video  made me think about my self-portraits. I reflected on how they have always been torture for me to complete.

I seem to be able to paint everyone else really well but have a hard time painting a portrait of myself.

And then I thought, what if I looked at myself with the eyes and love I reserve for my other portraits?

It was a beautiful experience. I just painted and enjoyed the process. I didn’t worry about my lines, wrinkles, or the size of my nose.

What a beautiful experience. The lines and wrinkles were no longer bad things. They were simply the physical characteristics that made me, me.

Here’s the first statement (draft).

What pleases me most is that I only look slightly harsher in the painting. My goal by the end if the painting is to convey only love. ‘Tis a tall order but I’m going for it.

I’ll post a pic when I’m done.

Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks for sharing this Shannon! You are a genuine beauty to remind us all we are more than the reflection in our mirror.

I had seen this video a couple days ago and being the market researcher I am, was fascinated by the methodology …and the outcome too of course! Bravo to Dove for doing this. Your painting of love is coming along great!
