Good Enough

I’ve had a melody stuck in my head for a month but the words would not come.  Friday I was determined to get the words out, but they proved elusive. (It’s like the song was upset and didn’t want to talk about it!) I felt stuck and that pushed every last one of my “not good enough” buttons. I said as much to  songwriter Jason Shepherd and remarked that maybe I should write about not feeling “good enough”.

Well, as soon as I made that decision, the words came pouring out . They didn’t fit the original melody, only parts of it but I didn’t care. I wrote it all down as fast as I could.

Today I tried to make it even better with piano and strings , but in the end, I reverted back to the original version.

It’s raw, it’s strong, and I love it!  I am so grateful for supportive friends and family.

Enjoy~

Good Enough

Good enough never held

Good enough always yelled

Good enough wasn’t friends with me

Bad enough that  I cried

Bad enough still I tried

Bad enough  won’t get off of me

And I sit here in the dark

Looking hard for the light switch

Afraid to make my mark

Never felt good enough

Good enough never helped

Good enough I rebelled

Good enough left a lot of debris

Bad enough you’re bona fide

Bad enough I must confide

Bad enough you’re a heavy weight on me

And I sit here in the dark

Looking hard for the light switch

Afraid to make my mark

Never felt good enough

Good enough is bad enough

Bad enough is good enough

Where I live is entirely up to me

And I sit here in the dark

Looking hard for the light switch

Afraid to make my mark

Never felt good enough
