The Brink: The Road To Tennessee

posted in: Music 0

The prompt for this week’s #SongGame was “The Brink”. It worked perfectly in the bridge for a song I had in progress, The Road To Tennessee.

It started off as a look at my songwriting journey but turned into a profoundly spiritual piece for me about all aspects of my life.

There are so many angels in my life. This one’s for all of you!

The Road To Tennessee

I broke down a long way from where I wanted to be

Her truck had flames and a huge tow assembly

She said get in, I’ll drive, you can catch a few winks

She was an angel dressed in overalls on the road to Tennessee

We pulled in to the station. I got a brand new battery

Her rig needed fuel, I think she was sweet on Danny

She said get going , I’ll help , girl try to believe

She was an angel dressed in overalls on the road to Tennessee

She said you’re right here on the border,

Hey you’re standing on the brink

Sometimes we’re dressed as waiters

Sometimes we’re missing teeth

By the way if 40’s closed there’s always 23

I woke up a short way from where I wanted to be

When I went to pay she, said no this one’s on me

Give lift when you can to other travelers please

She was an angel dressed in overalls on the road to Tennessee
