courage in pain or adversity
I’m working on three pieces for the Madera County Arts Council’s Celebrate Ag Show . This show is the longest running Ag show in California and it truly is the best. Even when I lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, I’d submit my work for the competition/exhibition and make the trek to Madera. The show is always a grand event, the artwork/artists are inspiring, and the prize money is good 🙂
I won’t be able to compete this year. I recused myself as I’m the one who hired the judge, (brilliant artist Kathleen Sheridan) , but I still wanted to participate in the show.
This first piece is called “Fortitude”. When I looked at the finished piece I saw such strength and courage in all the layers of paint. As I was creating the piece I had the sense that there were no “wrong” strokes. That everything built upon each other and they all worked together to create the whole….kinda like life!
I didn’t have a lot of time to work on the pieces so I thought I’d try acrylic instead of oil. (Acrylic dries much faster than oil) I struggled a bit with the medium. I tried to make it work like oil and I think it was really insulted. Once I let the acrylic be acrylic, things worked out just fine.
I’m really happy with the result.
