New Song: Spaghetti Western Dream

Some creations take a long time to birth. Spaghetti Western Dream has been trying to emerge since August of 2017! At the time, I was working at Denham Resources, and I’d spend my lunch hours songwriting and noodling on my guitar.

The music emerged first, and for a long time. I thought I’d leave it as an instrumental. It felt like a song about paths crossed and I thought it said all it needed to say.  But in the past week or so, the song has been nagging me to take it further. I kept hearing it in my mind’s ear, as well as Bad Company’s (Paul Rodgers) Silver Blue and Gold.

When I heard Silver Blue and Gold I giggled. I wasn’t thinking about a lover. It reminded me not to forsake my music. As I painted each morning, Silver Blue and Gold continued to nag and did not stop until I put the paintbrush down and worked exclusively on the song.

The lyrics are a compilation of many life experiences. My former boss and friend, Kathy Bray, loves to ride her pony in the fog and that was the first scene I saw when I started to write the lyrics. My husband is a Western Channel junkie and even though I don’t watch with him, I must have absorbed the content through osmosis. And recently,  I binged-watched the Ken Burns Country Music Series so there you go. The result is not Country. It’s my own version of a Spaghetti Western Soundtrack. Hope you enjoy the ride~

Spaghetti Western Dream

Sidewalks made of wooden planks
Bandanna bandits scoped the banks
Smell of whiskey was pretty rank un huh
Stagecoach rolled in at high noon
I was hoping it held you
But swinging doors they helped me face the truth

I was riding my white pony
You were flying right beside me
La la la Spaghetti Western dream
We’ve seen the good, bad and ugly
Cowboys, gamblers, and the hombres
La la la Spaghetti Western dream

I bid Texas adios
Shed some tears and a lot of hope
Thinking ‘bout the day we eloped un huh
I found me a new saloon
Started singing different tunes
How you live is something that you choose

I was riding my white pony
You were flying right beside me
La la la Spaghetti Western dream
I’ve seen the good, bad and ugly
Cowboys, gamblers, and the hombres
La la la Spaghetti Western dream

Run man run man run man run
Never was any fun
Only brought me back to where I’ve been
Face to face with the red sun
Whiskey gotcha not the gun
I
Miss
You

I was riding my white pony
You were flying right beside me
La la la Spaghetti Western dream
We’ve seen the good, bad and ugly
Cowboys, gamblers, and the hombres
La la la Spaghetti Western dream

Tumbleweeds and rattlesnakes
Mirages they evaporate
